Amabelle Ong, Service to Others Before Family
From the war zone province of Basilan in the Philippines to the desert in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the amazing destination of Dubai, this committed Pinay nurse makes sure that she performs her duties with much passion and zeal.
No wonder, with her over 17 years in the healthcare industry, 8 years of which was spent in cardiology, Amabella S. Ong remains one of the sought-after health professional especially in developing strategies and innovations in the practice of cardiology.
Amabella, 38, was the Divisional Director for Cardiology and OPD at the International Modern Hospital. The OPD in IMH is a big department that covers the ground floor, first floor and 2nd floor. The cath lab is in the 4th floor.
She is self-driven, well-organized and analytical and has a “can do” attitude. She welcomes challenges. The very small surprises can make my day. Her tasks are enormous. Aside from providing leadership and management to the Cardiology Department that has high acuity patients, she had to include the OPD for which she has a very large group of people to handle. She had a total of 34 nursing staff and 10 support staff plus around 37 physicians.
She was named Nurse of the Year in 2014.
