How would you measure the significance of an emerging expat organization in Middle East? For the OHSEC PINOY Group, a Dubai-based network of professionals, it depends on how you weigh things.

Jason Lopez, who serves as OHSEC-PINOY Group Vice President, emphasized that their greatest achievement is in how they were able to change the status of Filipinos. “I can’t speak for the entire group’s opinion on this. For me, it is because of those students whose existence we touched. I measure our progress with how many lives and careers we continue to change for the good and not the count of students who enroll to our course.”

There were once kasambahay (housemaid)-turned-office secretary, houseboy-turned-office administrator, customer service staff -turned-IT administrator.

Uphold excellence

OHSEC actually stands for Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental  Consultancy. It started with the collaboration of 8 Filipino professionals working in the UAE who shared one common goal, to HELP our fellow Filipino’s grow personally and professionally.

The group was founded by Janice Gagabi, Jason Lopez, Bong Suniga, Glennford Guevara, Ardee Marzonia, Zeus Zalzos and Gabriel John Rimando.

The group is determined to strive and uphold excellence in its classes to reach a common goal among Filipinos through proficient development in their chosen training. It has a mission to foster solidarity and camaraderie among Filipino groups and communities and the Philippine Government through continuous support with their projects and outreach programs throughout the community.

Lopez stressed they started from scratch with 130 students on their list. “As of the latest count, we have enrolled more than 1,000 Filipinos.”

Quality training

OHSEC is accredited by Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) which  is responsible for the growth, direction and quality of private education and learning in Dubai. KHDA is a regulatory authority in the Government of Dubai which supports the improvement of schools, universities, training institutes and other human resource sectors.

OHSEC-PINOY Group draws strength from its mission of providing high quality training and personal development to Filipinos in the UAE who simply wants to learn a new craft or skill to further advance their current status, knowledge or profession.

Likewise, it provides an exemplary development on its members’ professional and non-professional programs within the Filipino community. It has been recognized for its excellence in preparing Filipinos in the use of conceptual, theoretical and practical applications for further development of their careers.

It also seeks to recruit and retain qualified trainers who better themselves for the benefit of the students and members.

Why OHSEC Pinoy?

For those who wanted a change in their economic life, the choice of a reliable community matters. “I can’t speak for the other organizations but for us, we keep transparent records of our dealing and transactions for better accounting. We are transparent with our members about our institutional expenses,” Lopez said.

“If I were to venture a guess what sets us apart, it is the diverse experience of our trainers and volunteers who constantly give their time and knowledge to our students so they can continuosly progress in their chosen careers,” Lopez further said.

He confirmed that at the moment, they have 60 active volunteers who are all seasoned and experienced in their own careers. In the last two years, there were at least a hundred volunteers. “The reason why our fellow kababayan should enroll in OHSEC-PINOY Group is that we offer hands-on, practical experience in teaching our subjects. We have a classroom environment which enhances learning through interaction with classmates, materials and exams. Our facilities are being hosted in American College of Dubai which allows us to use real classroom settings to perform our classes and lesson.”
