Pinoy nurse trains expats how to save life

For his extraordinary achievements, Eduardo San Juan Buhay, who is a Learning and Development Specialist at the Emirates Airline, was recognized as Nurse of the Year during the 3^rd Anniversary celebration of Kabayan Weekly. 

Now at 45, Ed, as he is affectionately known, lives in a world where workplace is like a paradise and home is heaven. His day starts with a morning prayer.

In 2002, he joined Emirates Airline as Emergency Medical Technician based in the Dubai International Airport . A year after, he was promoted to the post of Learning and Development Officer and eventually as Specialist under Group Medical Training Unit of Emirates Aviation College- Crew Training. He has been in this post for about 13 years now. 

Ed got married to Rowena Sagabay, also nurse by profession on November 26, 1994 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubai, UAE. They now have three children. Hailey Marie, Edison and Dowen.

 The very reason why he continues to excel in his chosen profession is the chance to save someone else’s lives. At times, he is disturbed by that feeling of guilt that I could have done more.

“Like any other young professionals, I am adventurous in search of providing more financial assistance to my family and at the same time provides future professional and career development.”

Today, he finds it fulfilling to share his time as well as resources through the Bantay Bata 163 program of ABS-CBN Foundation. He is currently involved in St. Mary’s Catholic Church activities and Philippine Healthcare Professional Association (PHPA) in reaching out to our distressed kababayan and other nationalities.

“For me, life is a continuous spiritual journey where our final destination is Him. It is a balance of both your spiritual and personal life. A personal life that consists of your family, career, health and relationships with your friends.

To his fellow expats in the desert, two factors should be part of living here – sensitivity and awareness to other cultures. “Follow and respect the rule of the land. Always give your best, love what you’re doing and create simple rules for you to make you happy”
