This Filipino achiever is blessed to have been part of a Dubai Internet City-based company which has been recognized as leader in delivering proven business and IT strategies and solutions to Global 2000 companies across many industries.
Francis Rey Apo currently works as Administration Executive for Hitachi Consulting, a global consulting firm with operations in North America, Europe, Middle East and Asia. The company earned Diamond Level Partner status, the highest ranking available in the Oracle Partner Network (OPN) Specialized program.
From Salesman to Executive
Franz armed himself with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Sto. Tomas in Manila. For his elementary and secondary education, he studied at the Claret School of Quezon City. He has spent more than 6 years here in Dubai and finds this metropolitan city a good, exciting place to live in. His first job was being a sales representative stationed in malls but didn’t stay long.
He worked as Car Rental Agent and Archives Clerk before he was named as Office Manager at Cornerstone Free Zone Company. Then, he worked briefly as Administration Executive at Khaleej Times until his appointment in 2011 as Operations Supervisor and Administration Executive at Cox & Kings Global Services (CKGS).
He has experienced transferring from one company to another due to economic downturn. “This gave me a lesson to be always prepared and have emergency funds in case I lose a job. As we are all aware, the rents here are very high. There are many Filipinos who are forced to go back to our country when they have lost their job because they don’t have sufficient savings to sustain their stay here. Worst is that they will resort to borrowing money which I believe is not really a good thing to do.”
Act of Kindness
Through the Couples for Christ and the Singles for Christ (CFC-SFC), Franz and his comrades organizes the ANCOP program. “We help and support the poorest of the poor in the Philippines and other poor countries. We raise funds to provide them shelter, livelihood, health programs and education.”
“We also have the so called “Social Development Program” in our community that supports distressed Filipinos in the UAE. Our community also supports UAE government programs such as clean-up drives and tree planting. We also support the Hospitals and UAE Red Crescent Society by conducting blood donation drives.”
“We have those humanitarian and community projects since we’ve always been taught to be merciful, t look to the interests of others and share what we have for these sacrifices are pleasing to God. We are ought to love one another.”
Contented and Blessed
From his life experiences, he learned that to be fulfilled in our career and life, the amount that we earn from work is not always that matters. “Having good relationship with people, with relatives and above all with God is very important. It’s thru faith that we are empowered in our daily work.”
Yes, what makes this man unique is his faith, composed attitude, patience and his capacity to find a stress relieving activity. “I feel happy, contented and blessed in my life. I believe that all things in life happen for a reason. Though it’s important to have self-confidence, it’s more important to have confidence to our God. Relationship with God and values are most important for me. Next is relationship with family and friends. I won’t compromise these important things.”
Franz was born in Quezon City in 1979 to spouses Felicisimo Apo and Manolita Delara. His mom is a Store Clerk in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. He has three siblings – Mary Rachel Apo Presillas, a Call Center Team Leader who is married to Jeremy Presillas; Fredrik Roy, Autocad Operator and Floyd Roald, Customer Service Staff.
Being married for a year, he’s taking more responsibility in raising a family. “Over-all, I’m enjoying my life right now because of the support I’m getting from my wife and from our church organization.”
His dream is to be able to travel to different places with his wife, Sheena Mae Tiongson Apo, an accountant. “I dream to have smart and talented children in the future and to be able to retire soon if we have enough savings.”
In Front of A Crowd
Though he’s a quiet type of person, he actually loves speaking even in front of a crowd. And on many occasions, he had to emphasize that being Filipino is great. “We are known to be hardworking and honest world-class professionals.”
“Filipinos can adapt easily to any environment or society. This is the reason why there’s a Filipino in almost every country in the world. We value our relationships with God, our family and people. We are known to be friendly and happy. Despite of any problems or disasters we encounter, we can still manage to smile and look for ways to enjoy life and be hopeful because of our faith in God.”
At 34, Franz considers his current job in a prestigious company as his greatest achievement in his career life. “It gives me the opportunity to learn more about office management. The experience and skills that I’m learning may help me in the future if ever I decided to put up my own business. I also get to work directly with a wide range of individuals at all levels.”
For those who are considering a career in administration, this is his advice: “Develop your confidence by practicing speaking skills and dressing smart. Practice by being self- organized, sorting out every detail of your life. If you enjoy paper works, filing, coordination, placing orders, reporting, sorting out hotel and travel arrangements, then, this is a career you will enjoy.
