Alex Callueng is a Dubai-based fashion and beauty photographer who firmly holds strong to his belief that the greatest works come from one’s burning desire to create. His colleagues would say that he communicates his thoughts, visions and goals through his work and seals it with his heart and soul.
Of his craft, his official website has this to say: “His principle in his craft is straightforward and simple- it’s about being true to oneself and professionalism. He takes his craft as a serious endeavour and is always open for new ideas. Every click in the shutter of his camera is well thought and has gone through strategic creative process to produce high quality images.”
Just like successful professionals who have mastered the details of their work, he has never thought of having a dull moment in the exercise of his career. “Even though he means business in his craft, he never forgets to have fun during the process because he believes that it’s the sole reason for it- doing things that make you happy and producing work that feeds your soul,” the website further states.
‘Life inspires me’
A native of Dinalupihan, Bataan, Alex said his love affair with a camera started with his love for his family. “It all started at the birth of my son. I wanted to document everything about him.” Alex is married to Evangeline. They have one son, Azariah Lexi Callueng, 6.
“I love being a photographer. I don’t think there is such a thing. Because nowadays, people can easily learn everything about photography and that they can or want to learn more and more. My style is really simple. It’s all about taste.”
“Life inspires me.”
He hasn’t done any exhibition yet though he’s planning to do in the near future. “For now, I am just trying to get into my rhythm and try to enjoy every moment of being in this field. Its not all bed of roses because you have so many competitors who are much better than I am.”
Valid story to share
For budding photographers, this he has to say: “Don’t believe everything you see. Seek and try it on your own.”
Though he has a taste for excellence, Alex said he has no particular person in mind when he was asked of his preference for a portrait shoot. “I can take pictures of anyone who have a valid story to share.”
To his fellow compatriots in Middle East, Alex has these lines of advice. “Avoid being jealous of your fellow Filipino men or of other nationalities. Try not to use the same old mentality that brought our country down. If ever you are abroad, be broad minded. Be open for trials and evolve. Don’t ever stop improving yourself.”
Never in the equation
The measure of success for him has never in the equation. “You can never be successful if you pull others down. And I guess this drag others down. I am just like everyone, trying to make it every day. I still have a long long, long way to go. But the thing is – I just don’t dream. I work hard for it.”
His old enough not to tell you his age, he jokingly said. He’s still at the prime of his career.
