MANILA – A Filipina hotel executive based in Dubai is this year’s one of the awardees of the 7th Outstanding OFW and Balikbayan Reputation Award (OBRA).
Vagelyn Tumbaga-Federico, Director of Dusit Thani Dubai and a native of San Fernando City, La Union was honored for having been “recognized by the companies she is working with while outside the country.”
The three letters “OFW” stands for Overseas Filipino Workers, a term which have been popularized to refer to millions of Filipino migrants who have chosen to work outside the territorial jurisdiction of the Philippines.
The awards for various categories were presented by Michelle “Mitch” Ballesteros, CEO of Ex-Link on December 15, 2015 at Mega Trade Hall 2 of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. Present were the invited guests from both the public and private sectors. Now on its 7th edition, the event was organized by Ex-Link Management and Marketing Services Corporation.
VAGELYN’S RISE TO SUCCESS
At a young age of 35, Vagelyn blossomed to become a multi-awarded HR professional who has been acknowledged time and again by institutions for her remarkable involvement in heroic pursuits. She has 10 years of experience in the United Arab Emirates as HR Professional, from HR Secretary to now HR Director of the number one Asian International Hotel Chain, Dusit International.
She was named a full-pledge General Manager of Acacia Hotel, the largest inventory of rooms in Ras Al Khaimah in UAE, at the age of 28 and the youngest and only Filipino who participated in The Middle East Great GM Debate.
She was recently awarded as HR of the Year 1st Runner up in the Middle East and North Africa Hospitality Excellence Awards 2015, Hotel Professional of the Year 2015, 1st HR Achiever by the Dubai Hotels HR Professional Network. She was named as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipinos in the Gulf, Best in Human Resource Management 2014 by Dusit International, Kabayan of the Year (UAE’s version of Filipino of the Year), and Al Habtoor Motors Excellence Awardee 2014.
She is currently holding the position as President of the Filipino HR Practitioners of the UAE (Fil-HR) and the Adviser for Growth and Development of the United Hoteliers of the Philippines-UAE Chapter.
She’s a graduate of Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts major in Political Science. She’s married and blessed with 3 kids who are currently living and studying in Dubai.
Aside from Vagelyn, also awarded were Carlo Casinto and Clarisse Pastor-Cunanan as Outstanding Entrepreneurs; Peter Esrael and Anne Quintos as Outstanding Community Builders; Dr. Rowel Palo-Anicas and Salome Almanon-Cunanan for Outstanding Positive Character/Deed; Joel Nedamo and Felix Castillo as Outstanding Family Builders; Johnny Dawis-Salutan for Outstanding Work Ethics; Tristan Ian Cristobal and Carmi Irene Cristobal as Outstanding Filipino Bloggers.
OBRA was conceived by Michelle “Mitch” Ballesteros, CEO of Ex-Link. Now on its 7th year, the award aims to recognize outstanding OFWs and Balikbayans. The event aims of promoting the positive impact of OFWs and Balikbayan on our society. The event also aims to highlight OFW/Balikbayan models that our other OFWs and Balikbayan can emulate in this time and environment where a lot of us are seeking for inspirations and directions to make our life meaningful.
