Doha-based Jeanette U. Gotangogan starts the interview with this response, “I have nothing to brag. Tulad ng iba, ako ay nagmahal, nasaktan at nagsumikap.”
Yet, Jeanette is no ordinary Overseas Filipino in the State of Qatar. In terms of career, she is the first female Filipino staff hired by a gas company and still working with them amidst all the changes and also has given multiple awards by the company.
In terms of economic standing, she started as Student Assistant. Now, she is Chief Executive Officer of her own company. She is also a philanthropist, and she was given significant awards by various institutions. She is her family’s breadwinner. And as such, she always reminds herself to take care of her health.
Beyond all the achievements, she takes simple pleasure in having been announced as winner of Weight Loss Challenge 2015 in an Arab country where delicacies are simply irresistible. She received a prize of US$ 2,000. As her advocacy, all gift vouchers and cash were donated to chosen individuals and Filipino organizations.
Jeanette came from an OFW family, most of her relatives worked abroad and including her father who abandoned them when she was 18 years.
When she went abroad, the first thing she did was to get her siblings and have a stable jobs abroad.
She worked as Recruitment Officer for Key Resources in Doha. She managed to give employment to hundreds of Filipinos who are seeking jobs in Qatar, and those who would like to transfer to better jobs and due to high request of Filipino manpower, she also assisted and facilitated some joint venture agreements between the company and Recruitment agencies in Philippines.
Jeanette holds the distinction as the first female Filipino staff hired by ORYX GTL Limited, a joint venture multi-billion dollar plant of Qatar Petroleum and Sasol in Qatar and the first Gas to Liquid giant in the oil and gas industry in the world.
Because of her high performance and dedication to work, the company hired more Filipino staff especially on the administrative side. She is also considered the most awarded employee of the company from different departments and groups acknowledging her work dedication and other fields.
As Filipino, her contributions and award uplift the integrity and credentials of OFW in their company, as well as in the oil and gas company and to the Filipino community in Qatar. She is a generous person who shares her blessings, as her devotion all awards either goods or monetary are given to the distressed OFW or as support to other organization that she thought will benefit them.
She pioneered in helping OFW in the company, other companies and fellow countrymen that needs help like typhoon victims, fire victims, condolences, accidents, hospitalization, and other emotional and financial help that they could get.
Outside of her regular duty as an employee, she supports the advocacies of INJAZ Qatar, a partner of ORYX GTL in CSR Projects. It is an organization that partners together with the local business community, corporate volunteers and educators to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy.
INJAZ Qatar is a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide (JA), the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.
Jeanette is a very active volunteer of this organization, she teaches financial literacy amongst students of various international schools in Qatar. She was awarded by Sheika Al Thani for her outstanding commitment to their advocacy.
For the future
Moreover, since she is also an OFW, the most specific accomplishments with solid proof that she has are having assets such as condos, apartments, houses, cars, business shareholders, farms, tricycles which generates income that used to finance some outreach programs as well as to give jobs to some kababayan. Jeanette also donated cash and goods in various organizations in Qatar and Philippines. Also an entrepreneur, she owns Quantum-Leap Manpower Recruitment Agency in Makati, Philippines and a managing partner of LiQha Trading and Golden Chef Bakeshop in Qatar.
She was also a former Vice President of Overseas Filipino Investors and Entrepreneur Movement (OFIE_M), an organization in Qatar which aim to educate the expatriate workers on how to manage their hard-earned money. The movement encourages Filipinos to start saving and investing in Philippines while in Qatar. Jeanette oftentimes is invited to be a speaker and/or facilitator of the trainings.
